fibonacci nude II

"...she shall be called 'woman,'" Genesis 2:23

To me, Fibonocci's spiral is evidence of a creator God. His fingerprint is seen throughout nature in this spiraling pattern of mathematical genius. From this numerical series we get the golden rectangle, the golden mean, and this beautiful spiral. This series of numbers is found in natural dynamic growths of all kinds; mating rabbits, population growth and even bacteria. The spiral is seen in nautilus shells, succulent plants, the sunflower, the pine cone, the human ear, an ocean wave, schools of sardines, and the very galaxies above us. This blueprint that combines math, science and beauty causes me fall down and worship this omniscient God.

charlotte

acrylic and oil on canvas
60" x 48"
sold
Artist, Charlotte Seifert, was my first art instructor at SMU's continuing ed program at the Meadows School of the Arts. When my daughter Stephanie was in high school and building her port folio to apply to Parson's School of Design, we took a life drawing class from her. Charlotte and I have since become good friends and she is a great encourager and inspiration to me as an artist. She is represented by Norwood Flynn Gallery here in Dallas and her next show is October 17 - November 7.

I hope to see you next week at the Tseelana Market where my art will be available for purchase benefiting the Wilson Foundation. See my blog for details and click here for pricing.

mary

sold
acrylic and oil on canvas
48" x 60"
I named this painting "Mary" after my SMU art instructor, Mary Vernon. The past year I have had the privilege of her teaching and pulling (or shall I say "pushing!") me out of my comfort zone. The Genesis, Aboriginal and Organic Abstract Series were all created as a result of her valuable instruction. This Friday, August 28, 2009 is the opening of her solo show at Valley House.

"Mary" is part of the Organic Abstract Series which will be presented October 8th and 9th at TRU Salon, 2715 Fairmount, Dallas, TX and available for purchase benefiting the Wilson Foundation. The Wilson Foundation benefits orphans of AIDS victims in South Africa.

new life

“….put on the new self,

which is being renewed in knowledge

in the image of its Creator.”

Col 3:10

I have just finished reading Dr. Greg Boyd's book, Letters from a Skeptic. In his next to last letter (pg 181), Boyd discusses the process of transformation that begins once the leap of faith is taken. This process is totally radical to all other faiths in that Christ is the one who changes man, not man striving to be like God. The believer understands that he can never be holy enough for an all holy and perfect God; therefore the only way to be reconciled to his creator is through the work of a perfect and holy substitute.

God doesn't annihilate the old self or re-create a new self. He transforms the believer from the inside out. Something beautiful begins to emerge and grow. This is the love of God permeating the existing self. Our sin is absorbed in the cross and God then declares us righteous.

I don’t often do this but I thought it would be appropriate here to show you the under painting; a rather naive, whimsical painting of a tree. As the painting progresses, the old tree is slowly covered as the new tree, feasting only on God’s love, gradually grows and covers the old tree.

Now I have yet to meet a perfect Christian, self included. Therefore it is this process of continual transformation which is called living the life as a child of God. The final transformation takes place when we pass from this life to the next, shedding the old self completely.

mystery of the mist

"But there went up a mist from the earth,
and watered the whole face of the ground."
Genesis 2:6
SOLD
Before sin entered the garden the earth was watered with what the Bible describes as a "mist" and not the rain showers we know today. At the onset of the great flood, water spewed from deep inside our planet and flooded its surface. Some scholars and scientists tell us the Continental Divide and parting of the continents occurred at the onset of this global flood.

"Mystery of the Mist" is part of the Genesis Series and will be available for purchase at the Tseelana Market benefiting The Wilson Foundation, October 8 and 9 at the TRU Salon, 2715 Fairmount, Dallas, TX. Hope you can come!

Today on my 50th birthday I want to thank my parents for loving each other enough to create me and I want to thank Jesus for giving me LIFE. It has been a long time dream of mine to be a full time artist by the time I reached 50. Thank you, God for giving me such a wonderful life!

"Tree of Knowledge" is part of the Genesis Series which will be presented October 8th and 9th at 2715 Fairmount in Dallas, TX and available for purchase benefiting the Wilson Foundation. The Wilson Foundation benefits orphans of AIDS victims in South Africa.

This is the painting that started my aboriginal series this past spring. I was artistically "stuck" and with some coaching from Mary Vernon, my art instructor at SMU, I was able to translate on canvas this passion I have for Aboriginal art. I discovered collage artist, Lance Letscher this year and went to three of his shows in New York, Dallas and Austin. His work is amazing and even though this doesn't look anything like his collages, he inspired this piece which was auctioned at the Gordie Foundation's fund raising event this past June. I think collage is something I will enjoy doing more of in the future.
